Former Hungarian FM Szijjártó appears before National Security Committee
Péter Szijjártó was questioned for nearly three hours by the Hungarian Parliament's National Security Committee about his relationship with BYD and the state subsidies provided to the Chinese automaker during his tenure. The hearing of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade was initiated because, according to the Tisza Party, his decision to work for a company whose expansion he had for years assisted as a decision-maker poses a risk for national security, and presents a conflict of interest, as well as a moral concern. After Fidesz-KDNP’s election defeat in April, Péter Szijjártó took his seat in Parliament, but resigned his mandate in July to become the head of external relations and new business ventures at the Chinese company.
